Isabel in Edenton, NC

Photos by Don Gibbons and Dan Pfeiffer
I prepped my boat as best I could. Extra long lines to handle water level changes, removed all deck gear I could (including lifelines/stanchions), plywood panel in place of hatch boards, taped up openings with duct tape.
Nexrad Radar from Morehead city at about 10:20 AM.
Rising water at about 11AM. Water is about 2-1/2 feet above normal. The finger dock is awash. Lines look good.
Windy as the water is rising around noon. Water is about 3 feet above normal. This is about the last photo Don could take before being trapped on-board by the high water. I'm surprised the fishing boats didn't take down their outriggers.
Nexrad Radar from Morehead city at about 4:41pm.
NOAA Satelite image if Isabel at about 5PM. This is about the time of closest passage of the eye to Edenton. The center of the eye is about 40 miles WSW of Edenton.
From the cockpit of Windy at about storm peak around 5PM. Water is well over the parking lot and the road beyond.
High water on the marina builiding at about 5PM. Water is about 8 feet above normal. Stairway has been washed to the left.
More High water on the marina building at about 5PM. Stairway has been washed to the left. Coke machines are half submerged.
High water on the dock at about 5PM. Note the heeling sailboats and a furling sail has come un-furled.
More High water in the marina. Looking east towards the gas dock (submerged) and the travel lift.
This power boat was on stands 300 feet from the water. It floated off and ended up in the water sideways in the pilings. A crane will be needed to get it our. Or maybe a chainsaw?
The dock looks more like a fun house walk the day after the storm. All that brown stuff is pine needles. In Winston-Salem people pay good money to have pine needles dumped on their yards.
Some boats weren't secured so well. This Catalina 25 came loose and was blown across the parking lot near high water. Photo by Alex Pfeiffer - 4yrs old.
This S2 broke free and settled back down on the dock as the surge water receeded.
A typical street sceen in downtown Edenton. This street is actually in better shape than a lot.
